Description

Potato is one of the major vegetable crops that contribute most to the global food and nutritional security, ranking after rice, wheat, and maize. There are a good percentage of wild species of this Solanaceae tuber crop. Originating in the lofty Andean hills of southern. It originated in America, from which Spanish conquistadors took it to Europe near the end of the sixteenth century. Later, it was widely dispersed throughout the world, mostly as a result of European countries’ colonial expansion. It was presumably brought the India in the seventeenth century by Portuguese or British traders. In a multiple cropping system, potato was cultivated in rotation with either vegetable or grain crops. It gave the highest return and responded best to input. For most crops, the residual amounts of potash and phosphorus are sufficient, and the nitrogen needed for optimal cereal growth is lowered by half. As a result, it helps to enhance management of natural resources and optimize use of fertilizer, both of which are crucial for the sustainable production of agriculture.
