Description

It is matter of great privilege and honour to present something before the society. As Mr. C.S. Lewis has rightly opted, “You can make anything by writing.” We had nostalgia since our childhood to do something for the tribal people & today on the National Education Day we are presenting it before the citizens of India.

We express our heartfelt gratefulness to Maa, the Almighty for her blessing to complete the work.

We acknowledge and express our heartfelt gratitude to those who have been directly or indirectly involved in the publication of the book and after that we are presenting it before the readers   .

When women develop, the nation develops, because they are responsible for development in the family. The government is taking many steps to make women self-reliant, but their visible development is not there. Compared to the so-called educated areas, women in the tribal areas have more opportunities and respect, but their financial condition is not that satisfied. Although they live in a kind of self reliant economy, but with the change of era, their demand has also increased.

The basis of this book was a research study. In the financial year 2014-15, this research was accelerated in Gadapadar Panchayat of Jeypore Block under Koraput District. SHGs have been a boon in the field of women empowerment in Odisha & India. The researchers have focused on its status in tribal areas. Both primary and secondary data are used in research. The authors hope that the book will usher in a new direction in tribal development.

Chapters of the Book- The book contain five chapters. The chapter 1 is the Introduction, where the statement of the problem, Definition of the Tribes, methodology, Objectives, Hypothesis, Sampling etc has been dealt with.

Chapter 2 is a chapter on review of related literature. It briefly summarizes the earlier works done by the scholar on the said topic.

Chapter 3 is on Profile of The Study Area: It describes the Profile of the Sample Area, Profile of the Block, profile of the district along with the relevant information about the state.

Chapter 4 is the sample study deals with the details about women empowerment through SHGs in the tribal region of Koraput.

Chapter 5 is the concluding chapter. The main findings of the research are summarizes along with submission of certain humble suggestions.

The bibliography, sample Interview Schedule & Village Schedule are appended for the reference of the enthusiast.

It is expected that the book will help the students, scholars, researchers and development administrators who are interested in the study of tribal life, economy, culture and working for the same.

We are thankful to M/S Nitya Publications for publishing the research work within a short period of time. Any further suggestions for the improvement are welcome.

If with courage and wisdom her leaders have the sagacity to work with the aid of science there is no reason that why India should remain forever poor. At last we quotes a  few words of our beloved inspirer Shri Subhas Chandra Bose, “ I may be reborn from the same mother & I may re die for the same sacred cause till the cause is successful & she stand free for the good of humanity.”

Jai Maa Bharati.
