I realize that this book will create an understanding about the glycosylation of proteins that occurs via non-enzymatic mode. It has never been an easy challenge to perform some newer experiments with diabetes mellitus and associated complications using non-enzymatic glycosylation of human serum albumin. Having spent of almost 4 years in the field on protein biochemistry, having published almost 26 dedicated publications including 12 original articles and 14 review articles and some book chapters, I feel obliged to share my knowledge, significant research contribution, analyses and conclusions.
The book comprises of four detailed chapters having scientific techniques and understanding. The book started with the introduction section, contains the detailed description of non-enzymatic glycosylation of biological macromolecules including proteins, lipids and nucleic acids. Detailed pathways of advanced glycation end products (AGEs) were described in this chapter with its significance in diabetes mellitus and its associated complications.
Chapter 1-focused on the biochemical, biophysical and electrochemical characterization of glycosylated human serum albumin. Novel techniques were described for identification of AGEs both fluorescence and non-fluorescence based using spectroscopic approaches. Some new techniques were also incorporated for screening of AGEs. Biochemical techniques for characterization of AGEs along with protein SDS-PAGE, protein dialysis. Biophysical characterization by spectrophometer, CD, LCMS also performed.
