Description

Tripura is a state in Northeast India. The third-smallest state in the country, it covers 10,491 km2 (4,051 sq mi). The State of Tripura has an agricultural Area of 2.55 Lakh Hectares, Farmers of 4.72 Lakhs, and agriculture’s state domestic product share is 32%. Out of 4.87 lakh ha gross cropped area, Paddy alone accounts for 54% (2.64 lakh ha) area in the State.  Rice-based cropping system, IFS modules have been promoted in the last few decades for attaining self-sufficiency in food grains production. Due to the change in policy plan from increasing production to doubling farmers’ income, emphasis is given on crop diversification with horticultural intervention, increasing production and productivity of major crops, increase in area under organic cultivation and its marketing, Increase in irrigation facilities, Rightful implementation of schemes like PM-KISAN, PMFBY, KCC, MSP support, Soil Health Management and Development of different farm gate infrastructures. Presently Department of Agriculture and State KVKs has given more emphasis on increasing the production and productivity of major agricultural crops, Promotion of organic farming, Promotion of Natural Farming, bringing diversification towards high-value crops, increasing cropping intensity, facilitating agricultural finance, loans and crop insurance, promotion of Post Harvest Management for increasing shelf life and value, bringing improvements in real prices received by the farmer, use of agricultural drones.

This publication focuses on major technologies popularised among the farmers in the form of testing, demonstrations, large scale adoption in Tripura. We sincerely acknowledge the efforts of Agriculture Department, Tripura, ICAR Institutes, SAUs, KVKs for working on those technologies for the benefit of famers  and other stakeholders
