Preface

 

Moonlighting means working for one organization while taking extra jobs, usually without the employer’s knowledge. Moonlighting is side employment taken up at night or on the weekends. The phrase moonlighting became popular when Americans started looking for a second job in addition to their 9-to-5 jobs to supplement their income.

Moonlighting is understood as holding a second job outside of normal working hours. Numerous members of labour force contribute to the secondary market by working additional hours either through additional jobs or through self-employment. It has been observed that it is a common practice to hold second job in addition to primary job in both developed and developing countries. Betts (2006)1 found that it was a persistently well-established global trend and moonlighting practices were found in both skilled and unskilled labour. Professionals have been termed as the one with highest number of moonlighters.

The research work titled “The Effect of Employee Moonlighting and it’s Influence in Food Industry with Specific Reference to Zomato” is organized in the form of 7 chapters.

The First Chapter, titled – Introduction Moonlighting is a recent buzzword that has garnered a lot of attention. In simple terms, it is the practice of an individual being employed by one organization but taking up extra jobs without the employer’s knowledge. Also known as side gigs, the extra jobs are usually taken up after office hours. The present research is aimed at achieving mainly four objectives, i.e.

  • To identify factors responsible for moonlighting among employee.
  • To establish impact and relationship between moonlighting and job performance.
  • To analyse the various issues involved in moonlighting.
  • To offer strategies to employers to exercise effective control over moonlighting employees.

The Second Chapter, titled – Literature Review discusses conceptual perspective of Moonlighting and analyzes various national and international published reports, documents, Journals, organizations guidelines and other materials of international relevance. It also explains the basic concepts of moonlighting and its impact.

The Third Chapter, titled – Conceptual and Theoretical Framework discusses various framework of multiple job and also discusses proposed model.

The Fourth Chapter, titled- Research Design and Methodology discusses Research Methodology explains the applied methodology in this study.

The Fifth Chapter, titled Data Analysis. The results of the study have been explained and presented in this chapter. The chapter starts with a presentation of a demographic profile of the respondents followed by the validity of the questionnaire.

The Sixth Chapter, titled Findings and Discussions gives its findings and discusses view points of results of the focus group research.

Finally, The Seventh Chapter, titled Conclusion, Recommendations and Future Scope of the Study. This chapter highlights the managerial implications and discusses about the present research as well as the future scope of the study.
