August 1990, afternoon, a little humid and hot, but my sweating was unusual on that day, while I was resting. No relief despite the fan in full swing. No other symptoms. Checked my pulse, no change. Perturbed, I called my colleague, a physician, andmy neighbour too. My BP was up hill. I got the EKG machine dropped off from the hospital. And behold, it was a heart attack (Acute Inferior wall ST- elevated Myocardial infarction). I was immediately hospitalized. I went through the ordeal as usual and came out unscathed after a week or so. My lifestyle was what is required at the age of 48, I had no obvious risk factors. No stress at the conscious level (since it is difficult to comprehend the subconscious). The puzzle was, ‗why me?‘ Most of the time, the ‗why‘ has no satisfying answer. The overwhelming thoughts eventuated in ―Himalaya Melts‖, the first English poemI wrote.
