Description

With the rise of democratic movement, citizens in most countries are asking for a greater say in the legislative process of the state. Though, a large numbers of efforts are being initiated by the government towards participatory governance by establishing several kind of partnerships with non-governmental organizations, civil society organizations, business communities, trade unions and others. But, in practice, citizen participation in legislative process is either minimal or negligible. Even many people do not seem to be exercising their franchise or engaging in party politics, so the electoral pledges have little influence on the final selection of policies and that “the policy influencing function of election is small”. This book primarily has tried to make an enquiry into the role of NGO, CSOs and local governance towards strengthening democracy at grass root level. This book has been prepared in accordance with the findings and output emerged while conducting a minor research project sponsored by ICSSR, New Delhi. The book amounts to be categorically an academic book as it is based on research accommodating primary and secondary data.
